Purewa Beautification and Environment Care Initiative

Purewa is ‘GREENING UP’ the cemetery grounds! Here’s how:

  • Environmental Impact Reduction

    – We all know that plastics are bad for the environment and bad for our health. It is time to phase out the use of plastic flowers and ornaments in the cemetery.
    – To meet this goal, Purewa will immediately begin removing plastic and silk flowers, and unapproved items including glass and ceramic objects from Y Block.
    – The second phase is to extend this cleanup to other blocks.
    – Purewa will assess each block of the cemetery and adjust policies regarding permitted objects accordingly.

 

  • Beautification

    – After the removal of unauthorised items, Purewa will clean the berms (water blasting), restoring the original character of the lawn berm areas.
    – Similarly, appropriate measures will be applied in a phased process across the cemetery.

 

  • Respect for our community

    – These efforts will be carried out with due consideration and respect for the plot holders. The goal is a better experience and a more beautiful cemetery for all.

 

  • Health and Safety

    –  Wire, breakable glass, and ceramic objects (which shatter easily) can be knocked over by winds or lawn maintenance equipment.
    – Concern for staff safety and visitors, including children and pets, is of utmost importance to Purewa.

We will be removing all plastic flowers and breakable objects from Y Block beginning May 1, 2025.

Please collect any plastic flowers and other non-compliant objects such as glassware and pottery that you might like to keep before May 1.

We would love to see natural flowers in their place!

Approved vases are available for purchase at the Administration Office.
