Eternal Connection

As Matariki rises again this month, Purewa celebrates the diversity of lives whose memories we hold in trust, reflecting the past souls represented in the stars above our grounds.

Just as Pōhutukawa, the guide and keeper of souls remains a permanent, eternal connection to their lives, she encourages us to look back, remember, and maintain a lifelong gratitude for all our ancestors who built the foundation for our present. In keeping with Tāmaki as the mooring place of many canoes and the gathering place of many peoples, we honour the unique journeys and legacies of those who rest here.

For those who rest at Purewa the journey began in many far away place: China, India, the Americas, the Pacific Islands, the Middle East and more. And of course, Aotearoa. They are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Bahai, Buddhist, Jewish and a multitude of philosophies and outlooks. We welcome all; we honour all.
