As Matariki rises again this month, Purewa celebrates the diversity of lives whose memories we hold in trust, reflecting the past souls represented in the stars above our grounds.

The Kronfeld Family

Gustav and Louisa Kronfeld lived inspiring lives. Gustav, a German-Jewish emigrant to Samoa, and Louisa, Granddaughter of Chief Fiamē of Lotofaga, married and settled in Auckland where their home became a centre of hospitality and symbol of Samoan culture that still resonates today.

A Special Unveiling of a Memorial Plaque in Purewa's Historic Old Section on Sunday Honours the Memory of a Long-forgotten Victorian Girl

There will be a small gathering this Sunday 15th March at 4pm, where we will unveil the newly placed plaque and share a moment remembering Mabel and her niece (also buried in the plot).

Shared Heritage: Auckland Zoo, Auckland War Memorial Museum, and Purewa

Visitors to Auckland’s Zoo encounter not only wildlife but a history that links some of our city’s most influential citizens. It’s a story of architecture, taxidermy, philanthropy and an elephant whose life brought joy to the hundreds of thousands who visited her over her 42-year career at the zoo.
