Shared Pathway Opens to Purewa's Beauty

Purewa has an impressive new neighbour: The 2.65km section 2 of the Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive shared pathway for cyclists, walkers, scooter riders and runners was officially opened last month. Known as Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Tai – the path of land and sea – the joint project of Auckland Transport and Waka Kotahi provides a total of 7.3km to connect Auckland’s eastern suburbs to the city centre. Purewa Cemetery is one of the many beautiful places along the path.

Children and Teenagers Graves Inspire Students

Seventeen-year-old Sophie Hawes noticed headstones marking the resting place of children and teenagers.   This inspired her and friend Luka Ljubisavljevic, both year 13 students at St Kentigern’s School, to reach out to the Friends of Purewa.
