Tiwha, was the son of Anglican Bishop Frederick Augustus Bennett and an officer in the Māori Battalion.
He served in Egypt, Greece and Crete as Transport Officer under difficult battlefield conditions.
After returning to civilian life he became a successful dentist practicing in Auckland.
