Ngata Prosser Pitcaithly was a secondary school teacher connecting with Maori students although not being Maori himself Ngata had early exposure in life to Maori language and culture. Ngata had a long and varied career spanning from 1924 to 1965 teaching at schools including but not limited too Auckland Grammar, Rotorua High school, Dannervike High School and principle at Selwyn College Auckland. Ngata had a profound impact in Norhtlands Kaikohe College as founding principle in 1947.
During his time at Kaikohe College Ngata developed courses in agriculture, chemistry and optional extra curriculum Maori language. Later in Northland he also helped with the formation of a girls cadet company at Northland College. Ngata had a meaningful impact on students lives incorporating practical sensitive knowledge into the cultural background of the local area while also still incorporating strict but fair principles to his students.
