Norman Edward Tate was an entertainer whose career spanned 50 years performing at schools, hospitals, charity fundraisers and more. He earn the name “The fun doctor” given to him by patients at a military hospital in Australia after the end of the first world war which he would embrace. Norman’s performances would see half the proceeds return to school funds or charity, even allowing children who could not pay to enter for free.
Normans fundraising performances would earn him an MBE in services in social welfare which was of great pride. It is estimated that Norman performed around 50,000 times and to more than two million people.
