Thomas Kenderdine arrived in Auckland in 1855 having completed his medical training in England. For many years he was in charge of the free Auckland Dispensary to support the sick and poor.

He was the first President of the Auckland Medical Association and a Director of the Mutual Life Association of Australasia. In 1881, with the Vicar of St Pauls Church John Floyd, he established the Anglican Children’s Trust and the Papatoetoe Orphanage, for which he was asked to lay the foundation stone. He was well known for his good works and was a social reformer and benefactor of his patients. Thomas BruttonKenderdine 1828-1894 is buried in Block C, Row 02, Plot 15.
