Burial & Ash Interment
For traditional burials, Purewa follows the Western tradition, with each person buried in a casket. You can choose to have your service at Purewa, your burial at Purewa, or both.
When the time comes, and you’d like to hold a service at Purewa, you’ll work with a funeral director to plan the service and let us know to prepare the plot you have purchased.
Following a cremation, your loved one’s ashes can be placed in a selection of urns for purchase or kept in Purewa’s standard options, including a biodegradable wooden urn.
We have new ash plots available in several sections of the cemetery, available for pre-purchase.
Cremation
Purewa has provided crematorium services since 1957.
We perform the cremation process with great care and dignity, so you feel supported when you need it most.
You or your loved one can choose to be cremated at Purewa with or without having your service here. Cremated ashes can be taken home, interred on-site or scattered on our Memorial Lawn.
Memorial Services
Purewa is a beautiful place for families to hold memorial services for their loved ones.
Our All Saints Chapel features a fountain garden view in a quiet setting. All Souls chapel is suitable for smaller gatherings. Each of the chapels has its own separate lounge for after-service catering.
Streaming links are also available from our chapels for distant friends and family.
Receptions & Gatherings
Purewa’s two lounges offer specialised and professional catering and can be booked without a chapel service.
Our catering is provided by Gattings – one of Auckland’s most innovative and respected catering companies.
Purewa’s Lounge of Remembrance accommodates up to 100 people, and St John’s Lounger offers space for 150 with additional space on its indoor-outdoor flow patio.
Plaques, Headstones, & Memorials
A headstone or plaque memorial is symbolises your loved one’s legacy – a place you can visit and pay your respects as you remember them.
Different parts of the cemetery require different types of monuments and headstones, while our ash interment areas are suited to a variety of plaques.
There is also a memorial-only plaque option on Purewa’s Memorial Wall, located near the ash scattering lawn.
Urns & keepsakes
We have many different urns on display at Purewa. Each is unique and made from materials such as ceramic, wood, china or alloy. The choice of urn is personal and can be offered as a final resting place for your loved one.
Smaller, more delicate urns are available for families who wish to divide their loved one’s ashes among themselves. We are here to help you select a keepsake that suits your loved one, and we accept cash, EFTPOS or credit card.
