Remembering Frank Hofmann
This Hanukkah season Purewa remembers photographer Frank Hofmann.
Frank made New Zealand his home from 1940 after fleeing Nazi persecution in his native Prague. An influential proponent of the New Photography, Frank’s genius continues to inspire us today, his work highly regarded by aficionados and collectors.
Photography was not Frank’s only talent. He was founding member of the Auckland String Players (later Symphonia of Auckland), and his playing can be heard on albums of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
