Alfred Kidd was the 18th Mayor of Auckland, elected in 1905 after serving as acting mayor under David Goldie. He was also an MP for Auckland and Chief Whip under the Seddon and Ward Governments.
Alfred was one of the first arrivals to the Thames Goldfields, where he worked for seven years. After a three year stint working for the Waikato Steam Navigation Company, he came to Auckland and took over the license of a string of hotels, including the Provincial Hotel on Prince’s Street, the Anchor Hotel and the Commercial Hotel (now de Bretts)
